The Funniest Political Slogan - How Sad

I was driving down the road last week, when I say a sign for Steve George for Superintendent of our school system.

I'm not sure this quy should be elected. His slogan is "Because We're Not Mayberry Anymore". Well, Panama City has been my home for 40 years, and I can tell you that we were not Mayberry then, and we certainly are not Mayberry now.

If Steven George thinks we are, then he is living in the twilight zone. In fact, I wish I could find Mayberry. I'd move there.

Bailout or Rescue Plan

So, our President and congress want to bail out the troubled financial industry to the tune of 700 billion dollars, and unfortunately that will probably happen. Sadly, the only people it will benefit is corporate America.

The government is going to buy all the bad loans made by financial institutions, and saddle us, the tax payer with the burden. The bailout will allow the financial institutions to once again loan money to individuals and companies, good or bad.

None of this assistance will go to help the troubled homeowner, who will lose their homes. The best thing that could happen is for the brave members of the House of Representatives to continue stand their ground on the issue and vote no. Let the financial industry shake itself out.

Cedar Grove Dissolution

So, the citizens of Cedar Grove have done the right thing with the vote to dissolve the city. Unfortunately, the battle isn't over, as there is a minority who will challenge the vote in court. trying desperately and in vain to force their desire on the majority.

What should take and happen in 30 days will probably take closer to 90 days as the attorneys draft and implement the process. Of course, with the court challenges, it will take longer.

To the citizens who voted to dissolve, you did the right thing. Now, if the rest of the incorporated areas in the county would follow suit.

Off Shore Oil Drilling

I, for one, am glad to see that our elected officials are finally in favor of offshore oil drilling. This is something that should have been done long ago, and I believe would help us with the current price of oil.

Yes, it may take 10 years for us to see results, but it will be worth it. Had we taken this action 10 years ago, we would now be reaping the benefits.

Closed Campuses? What A Joke

So, our school board, in it's infinite wisdom votes to close the campuses at lunch. It sounded like a good idea if it were to be enforced.

But, what does the school board do in it's infinite wisdom? It exempts 3 of the schools in the county.

What are we paying these people for? They come out with zero tolerance rules for some offenses, without exemptions, even over the silliest of infractions, then turn around and exempt schools and students from rules that should not even have been put into place in the first place.

As far as leaving campus for lunch, that should be up to the parents as to whether or not to allow their child the freedom to go. Not the "nanny" school board.

The End For Cedar Grove?

Congratulations to Tony Brannen and Mary Ann Gardner, the newly elected commissioners of Cedar Grove.

Both of these newly elected officials are in favor of bringing the town of Cedar Grove to an end, which is in line what the citizens of Cedar Grove voted for last year. To date, no action on this measure has been taken, but with the balance power changing, perhaps the end is finally in sight.

Once again, congratulations.

Reduction of Property Taxes & Loss Of Services

Leon County Sheriff Larry Campbell if the amendment passes, he expects to lose 100 deputies, all of them from the road.

“You can’t get a phone call that you are having a heart attack, or your house is on fire, or you are being robbed, and you get a recording that says you call is very important to us, and the first available fireman will come to you house as soon as he can.”

Who does he think he is kidding? Government services were sufficent 3 years ago before those big, bloated budgets. Leon County, send him packing.

Goodbye Dr. Seibert

Dr. Seibert.

It's sad how you have been treated by our state officials. You deserved better, and all I can say, is I hope with all my heart that what goes around, comes around for those that have done a hatchet job on you.

God speed and good luck in your new position.

The Right Thing (Dr. Seibert)

I'm proud of the local committee that recommended Dr. Seibert to be the medical examiner, even though they know that he doesn't stand a chance of being appointed by our state recommendation panel, or our DICKtator Governor Charlie Christake.

Our local officials, are at least, doing the right thing. I do though, think they should stand up for us and not allow the state to dictate our selection. Who knows our area better than us? Certainly not a state panel, or an out of touch governor with a personal agenda.

Guys, stand up and do not allow anyone else to take this office. Do whatever you have to do, file a lawsuit, etc. to stop these guys in their tracks. You'd be doing everyone in the state a favor.

Martin Lee Anderson

For a long time, I've kept quiet on the subject of Martin Lee Anderson, but the longer this goes on, the mader it makes me. A jury found all of the defendants NOT GUILTY, and now, with the verdict, the family should just let it go. To pursue the matter with the state and feds is uncalled for.

The were offered and received a 7.5 million dollar settlement in lieu of undergoing the long civil suit process, and they had their day in court. I'm sorry that the Anderson family didn't get the verdict they wanted, but the State put on the best prosecution they could.

For the State government, or the Federal government for that matter, to persue their own investigation or charges is uncalled for. I agree with Waylon, we as a community, should grow a set, and collectively say, "Enough is Enough".

Sometimes bad things happen to good people. Martin was just at the wrong place, at the wrong time, but it was his actions, and his family, that placed him there.

Let's let Martin Lee Anderson "Rest In Peace".
